I won’t lie, being on prime-time TV was fun.
We-Care.com the predecessor to AmazonSMILE (story for a different day) has raised over $8 million for nonprofit causes and wanted some PR as a cause marketing platform. We had collected funds from shoppers who designated us as stewards of those funds instead of designating causes.
So when Jeffrey Hayzlett was able to introduce us to Penn Jillette and his chosen nonprofit cause Opportunity Village for the 2013 All-Star Celebrity Apprentice finale, we wrote a normal size $20,000 check and brought a large one to the finale taping.
Doing well by doing good is a tenant of cause marketing.
